The Owner / Operator

Meet David

David Wasley is the owner/operator and executive chef of Cuisine Caterers, bringing over 25 years of professional catering experience to every event. He trained as a chef at Whanganui Regional Community Polytechnic (1991–1992) and Waiariki Polytechnic (1994–1996), earning trade certificates in chef training, restaurant service, wine service, bar service, and food handling.

David delivers delicious, freshly prepared food for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, school programmes, festivals, and community events across Manawatū. His catering services range from buffets and set menus, to finger food and canapés, and his portable gas oven and spit roast setup allow him to serve hot, high-quality food anywhere.

David has also played a key role in school catering. As Catering Manager at Freyberg High School, he implemented the Ka Ora, Ka Ako Healthy School Lunches Programme, leading a team of 12 staff to provide nutritious, seasonal meals for 1,095 students daily. He designed efficient workflows, developed menus that met nutritional standards and budget requirements, and ensured smooth service every day — helping students access healthy food that supported learning and wellbeing.

Over the years, David has catered events for up to 3,000 guests, including the Kimbolton Sculpture Festival and major community celebrations. He combines his formal chef training with decades of practical experience to create menus that are tasty, seasonal, and tailored to every client and occasion.

When he is not in the kitchen, David is actively involved in badminton coaching and refereeing, playing badminton, cricket, tramping, camping and community volunteering.
